5 Yummy Dog Treat Recipes for Summer

Cold treats! There is nothing better on a hot day than a cool treat (or drink). Our dogs think so too! Trust me… they have told me so.

Today I want to share 5 of my favorite yummy dog treat recipes for summer:

1. Peanut Butter Banana Pops

- 1 cup organic peanut butter
- 1 banana
- 1/4 cup water

  • Mash up banana and peanut butter in a mixing bowl.
  • Stir the water in, and mix it all up.
  • Put your mixture into an ice cube tray
  • Freeze and voila!

2. Fruit Pops

- Bananas, apples, blackberries, blueberries (use 1, 2 or all of the mentioned fruits. Be creative)
– Fat free Greek yogurt

  • Put your fruits in a blender, add yogurt and mix it up.
  • Scoop into ice cube trays or mold.
  • Freeze, and bam!

3. Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream

- 3 or 4 bananas
– 1 cup organic peanut butter
– about 32oz of no fat plain yogurt

  • Put bananas, peanut butter, and yogurt in a blender.
  • Pour your mixture into small tupperware containers.
  • Freeze and serve!

4. Veggie Pops

- Desired amount of water
– Veggies such as carrots and broccoli

  • Amount of water depends how much pops you would like to make.
  • Blend contents.
  • Freeze and serve!

5. Coconut Freezies

- Coconut oil

  • Simply soften up the coconut make little shapes or droplets on a pan.
  • Freeze and serve!

That’s it that’s all!

These are by far the easiest quickest summer treats I have made for my dogs. They love them, and hey… you might even like a taste yourself, just sayin ;)

I love these treat tips. Gotta try some of these. Though Cookie prefers something with at least some meat in it. She does like peanut butter.

  2. Mr. N likes anything with dairy in it. He got some of the ice cream we made at home the other day.

  3. Sherri says:

I have a terrible time getting my dog to drink enough, especially during road trips. I will try some frozen stuff to see if it helps. Something with peanut butter.

  4. Kamira Gayle says:

Okay , Now I’m hungry! All these treats sound delicious! And no I don’t have a dog. Hmm… Peanut Butter sounds like a favorite. I may have to try that for myself! LOL

  5. Amy Hempe says:

These are brilliant. I’m going to buy more ice trays just so that I can have these ready. I’m pretty sure we’re going to have a hot summer in Colorado this year so we will be ready.

  6. These are great recipe ideas! We just did a variation of the banana and peanut butter recipe, but with the addition of greek yogurt. The dogs went nuts for it!

  7. LOVE that first photo! It’s priceless. This is a great way to get dogs to be more hydrated.

  8. I like the first one. Super easy, and the ingredients are ones I always have on hand. My dogs LOVE bananas and peanut butter, it would be a hands down winner. Have to get a couple of ice cube trays, then we’re good to go!

  9. Ruth Epstein says:

Layla loves yoghurt especially Greek yoghurt or the Lebanese cheese Labane so in the summer I make her little pupsicles with it

  10. I’ve said it before – you’re DIY treats for your dogs always sound good enough for humans to eat. Do you sample the treats you make? Have you made any treats the dogs wouldn’t eat?

    • Jenna Drady says:

Awww thanks so much and those are great questions!
Yesssss, I sample them haha! :P Especially the yogurt ones lol. One time I made some biscuits using beef broth and a few other ingredients, they weren’t crazy for them but they did eventually eat them.

  11. Yum! Gonzo and Beau would love any one of these and they look so easy to make.

    • Jenna Drady says:

That is exactly the reason I love making things like this. I am not a baker, a cook, or anything handy in the kitchen by any means, but these are so easy anyone can do it!

  12. O.M.D. These recipes not only look yummy but easy too! Even my mom could make them! I definitely want to try the peanut butter/banana one first and the coconut one second! I’ve never tried coconut before and this sounds like a yummy way to try it!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!

  13. I have trouble finding ice trays etc. that are small enough for my pups tiny tiny mouth. At 3.5 pounds everything is WAY big. I am wondering if maybe making M&M size dots with a frosting tube on a wax sheet and then freezing them would work>?

  14. Cathy Armato says:

We LOVE frozen doggie treats in the hot weather! These are all great recipes, and I like that they’re all pretty healthy too. It’s nice to give our dogs treats with no preservatives & other junk in them for a change.

I think my dogs would appreciate all of these things. We don’t have very many hot days, but these would be a great way to help them stay cool!

  16. Robin says:

Yum! Dogs have it so good when it comes to treats! Some of these sound like something I would eat myself. I wish that kitties were equipt to digest some of these yummy things. They do love frozen tuna juice though! :)
